With delicate features pretty enough to rival any beauty queen, it’s no wonder that rising actor Song Joong Ki has been dubbed South Korea’s representative Flower Pretty Boy (“Gotminam”). Fans of Running Man may know him as the lively Active Joong Ki who takes on every game and challenge with clumsy enthusiasm. Many became familiar with Song Joong Ki through the highly popular historical drama, Sungkyunkwan Scandal, in which he played an aristocratic playboy. His character’s trademark line, “I’m Gu Yong Ha”, became a trendy catchphrase and the Gu Yong Ha Effect swept across the nation as female fans fell victim to his frivolous charm.

But, Song Joong Ki did not debut on television as an actor. In his first television appearance, Song Joong Ki was a participant in a game show called Quiz Korea. Despite joining the show at the last minute, this well-read young man managed to outsmart his way to the finals. He reappeared on television as an actor in 2008 with a role in the drama, Love Racing.

Acting is not Song Joong Ki’s only talent. He has the gift of the gab as well; often being invited to host programmes such as the K-Pop chart show, Music Bank, in 2009 and the Melon Music Awards in 2010.

This baby-faced man is known for his flawless, milky white complexion that even women are envious of. In 2010, Song Joong Ki published a book of male facial grooming tips titled ‘Beauty Guy Project’. The book was well-received not only in South Korea, but also in Taiwan, Japan and China. So, what is Song Joong Ki’s secret to great skin? No, there’s no need for expensive creams or weekly trips to the spa. For him, it’s as simple as staying away from cigarettes.

The current fifth year business economics student at Sungkyunkwan University is quite the all-round achiever. During his high school days, Song Joong Ki was a straight A student. He was elected as vice-president of the student council and even received an award for perfect attendance.

But Song Joong Ki’s head wasn’t always buried in the books. He participated actively in sports as well, having been a short-track speed skater for 10 years and representing his school is various national competitions. Unfortunately, Song Joong Ki was forced to give up the sport in his first year of high school due to a serious injury.

With his intelligence, talent and exceptional good looks, it’s not surprising that he was a hot favourite among his female peers even before his celebrity days began. These days, Song Joong Ki is busy working on his upcoming movie, Every Little Makes Romance, where he stars alongside top actress Han Ye Seul.

Song Joong-Ki began his mandatorymilitary enlistment on August 27, 2013. Around 1 PM, he entered the 102 Replacement Center in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province. He will undergo training for a 5 week period, before being deployed. His is scheduled to be discharged on May 26, 2015.
